ZHANG, Zhuoran is currently an assistant professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong , Shenzhen. He received his PhD degree from University of Toronto (2019), then worked as a postdoctoral fellow in University of Toronto (2019-2021). Prof. Zhang focuses on medical robotics research, especially cell surgery robots with applications in human assisted reproductive technology. His research interests include robotic micro-manipulation, computer vision, machine learning, cell characterization, robot-assisted decision making. He has been collaborating with several hospitals worldwide and focuses on clinical validation and translation of the developed techniques.
Prof. Zhang published over 50 papers within the past five years, among which 15 are as first or corresponding authors, including robotics journals T-RO, T-MECH, RA-L; biomedical engineering journals T-MI, T-BME; and clinical reproductive medicine journal F&S (journal rank 2/38). Prof. Zhang was awarded with Award for Technical Achievement by American Society for Reproductive Medicine for three subsequent years (2020, 2021, 2022, one awardee per year worldwide); a RA-L best paper award finalist (2019); and an ICRA Best Paper in Automation Award. His F&S paper was selected as an editor’s highlight. He was invited by Annual Review to publish a review article on robotic micromanipulation (highly cited article of the year). Prof. Zhang also serves as an Associate Editor for IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters, and Frontiers in Robotics and AI.
