Shenzhen Children’s Hospital
Established in 1997, Shenzhen Children's Hospital is a comprehensive children's hospital offering medical, health care, scientific research, teaching and rehabilitation services, located in the downtown area of Shenzhen. It is also the only 3A pediatric hospital in Guangdong Province.
Shenzhen Children's Hospital covers an area of 43,000㎡ with 1,277 beds and 54 clinical and medical services departments. The hospital possesses a comprehensive set of medical disciplines, which covers all departments required for a top general children's hospital. In 2021, the hospital received over 2.6 million patients in outpatients and emergency services, while the number of inpatients reached over 74,000.
In 2019 National Tertiary Public Hospital Performance Appraisal, Shenzhen Children's Hospital was ranked No.8 among the pediatric hospitals in China, and was selected to be in the list of the second batch of the high-level hospitals in Guangdong province. Shenzhen Children's Hospital is the branch of the National Clinical Research Center for Respiratory Disease, the pediatrics is rated as the High-level Clinical Specialty in Guangdong province. The pediatrics of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) of the hospital is the 13th Five-Year Plan Key TCM Specialty in Guangdong, Key Developmental Organization of pediatrics of TCM in Shenzhen and Guangdong province. The hospital possesses several Key Municipal Specialties as Pediatric Hematologic Oncology, the Pediatric Respiratory, the Pediatric Neurology, the Pediatric Surgery, etc. On the Annual Technological Influence Ranking List of Hematology Departments in Chinese Hospitals, published by the Institute of Medical Information of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS), the specialty of hematologic oncology is ranked among top 100, No. 4 among all children's hospitals in China, and No. 1 in Guangdong province for consecutively 5 years. In the first half year of 2021, the number of bone marrow transplant (BMT) cases is ranked No. 10 in China, and No.1 among all children’s hospitals in China. On the Chinese Hospital Ranking List, published by the Hospital Management Institute of Fudan University, the specialty of pediatric internal medicine is ranked No. 3 in southern China while the specialty of pediatric surgery is ranked No.2.
Shenzhen Children's Hospital has successively built up the projects of Shenzhen Key Laboratory for the Diagnosis of Children's Critical illnesses, Shenzhen Technical Engineering Center of Pathogens High-throughput Gene Sequencing, the Public Service Platform of the Drug Clinical Trials Base, the Public Service Platform for the Research and Development of the Humanized Mouse Model of Immune System, and Shenzhen Medical Public Service Platform of the Molecular Medicine in Pediatric Hematologic Oncology, etc. The hospital has attracted 11 prominent medical teams, two of which are from abroad. Meanwhile, Shenzhen Children's Hospital has been qualified to conduct drug clinical trials by the national institute of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), including 8 professional teams: the pediatric respiration team, the pediatric neurology team, the pediatric hematologic oncology team, etc.
In recent years, Shenzhen Children's Hospital has been developing more than 200 major scientific and technological research projects in different areas, including National High-tech R&D Program of China (863 Program); key programs, general programs, and youth programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC); key research projects of the Health Industry of the former Ministry of Health of China; programs of the Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province; key programs of Shenzhen Science, Technology and Innovation Commission; and have secured for research funds of more than CNY 130 million. In recent five years, over 334 research papers (indexed by SCI) have been published, 58 of which have an impact factor of higher than 5.0. The medical teams have led or participated in the drafting of more than 20 national and international clinical practice guidelines. The hospital has hosted the 10th Congress of the World Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases (WSPID). The China's Action Plan of Rational Use of Antimicrobial Agents on Children (2017-2020), which was written by the team of the hospital, has been published.
Shenzhen Children's Hospital is also a nationally certified training base for resident physicians in specialties of Pediatrics, Pediatric Surgery, Anesthesiology, Ultrasound Medicine, Radiology, Otorhinolaryngology, Oral General Practice and Rehabilitation Medicine. The hospital is also a post-doctoral innovative and practical base of Shenzhen. It has also set up the Shenzhen Children's Medical Simulation Center to provide training for a large number of pediatric innovation talents with excellence.
Shenzhen Children's Hospital also values capacity building of talents. It has attracted and trained leaders and talents with high academic influence in various disciplines, including type B and type C high-level overseas talents, type I and II practical talents, and also foreign academicians. There are 2,345 employees in the hospital till December 2021, 9 of which are doctoral supervisors, 121 are supervisors of master postgraduates, 1 is entitled to the Special Government Allowances of the State Council, 2 are awarded Shenzhen Municipal Government Allowance, 102 are doctoral degree holders, 582 are master degree holders, and 387 are entitled to advanced professionals.
Team members of the hospital are appointed to various nationwide academic associations, with 18 directors, 15 team leaders, 27 standing and 271 committee members; besides, 76 have been appointed to the committee of Chinese Medical Association, Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, Chinese Stomatological Association, and China Association of Chinese Medicine.
