Biological Sciences
Biological Sciences is a broad scientific discipline embracing many different fields of studies, including the functioning of living organisms from virus to human. Fundamental to the study of life is unfolding biological organization at its many levels, from molecular architecture to ecosystem adaptation. Scientific breakthroughs in the biological sciences in recent years have underpinned advances in medicine, biotechnology, food production and food safety, as well as nutrition and health science. The Biological Sciences program at CUHK-Shenzhen is one of the key disciplines at the provincial level. This program aims to provide students with a broad coverage and a basic understanding of major biological principles, concepts and technologies. The core courses include general biology, cell biology, biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, evolutionary biology and ecology and the related experimental courses. The emphasis of this program is to equip students with a broad scope of general biological knowledge, which provides students with comprehensive training in transferable skills as well as opportunities in independent learning required for all career paths. Our Biological Sciences students are armed with strong skills in acquisition of scientific enquiry and critical thinking and the majority of graduates accept jobs requiring interdisciplinary knowledge. Moreover, students will be equipped with strong problem solving skills and analytical skills throughout their science training. A wide range of career options and overseas study abroad opportunities will be available to our Biological Sciences graduates.
