Pharmaceutical Science
Pharmaceutical Science is a systematic study of drugs, including their source, preparation, application, and management. Like clinical medicine, it originates from the humans’ social practice and the demand for a healthy life. Pharmaceutical Science plays an important role in promoting the development of human health in China and the world. The launch of the program by our school was a response to the growing demand for pharmaceutical care in the community and pharmaceutical industry. The program not only is developed with reference to well-established pharmacy curricula offered by other renowned universities in mainland China, but also takes the international trends in pharmacist training and the specific demands of the mainland China into account. Upon the completion of the program, students can not only have the basic knowledge and skills in pharmaceutical science, but also master the techniques in drug preparation, quality control evaluation, and the assessment of rational drug use. The aim of the program is to prepare students for undertaking scientific and technological works in the field of drug production, inspection, circulation, use, and research in the future.
Unlike the general pharmacy curriculum, MED | LHS offers a degree in pharmaceutical science that focuses on the application of modern technology in drug discovery and design, including drug design based on human genomics data and known protein structures, the application of clinical big data in drug discovery, and the prospects for the development of nanomaterials for drug delivery and tumor targeted therapy are relatively broad. Besides the knowledge of modern pharmacy, students will also have the opportunity to touch upon traditional Chinese medicine, which is the treasure of our cultural heritage. They will understand the history of the development of traditional Chinese medicine, and the impact of Chinese medicine to the development of pharmacy in the world.
