Shenzhen Baoan Women's and Children's Hospital

Shenzhen Baoan Women’s and Children’s Hospital (BWCH) is a Class A tertiary specialized hospital committed to delivering state-of-art clinical and health care, innovative scientific research, and rigorous medical education. Currently, BWCH is located in the centre of Baoan (Qianhai), with a total construction area of 100,000 square meters, and 830 beds. Under the guidance of the spirit of “benevolent, skillful, dedicated, and professional”, BWCH has insisted a combination of clinical and health care to provide services to the public.

BWCH has more than 1600 employees, including 282 senior professionals, 54 employees holding doctoral degree, 335 employees holding master degree, 31 qualified supervisors for postgraduate students. BWCH has more than 30 clinical and medical technology departments, covering PICU, MICU, NICU, Gynecology, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Neonatology, Prenatal Diagnosis, Reproductive Health, General Pediatrics, Pathology, Radiology etc. In addition, there are several academic research institutions, such as Maternal and Fetal Medicine Research Institute and BioBank. BWCH also has one provincial medical engineering research center, two provincial health care specialties, three key specialties of Shenzhen, and five key specialties of Baoan District. BWCH has a long-standing collaborative relationship with American PROMEDICA Medical Group, Ohio State University, Imperial College of Technology, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shanghai Jiaotong University, and Bayi Children's Hospital. BWCH has received many honors, such as “National Base for Birth Defect Control, “National Pilot Unit for Scientific Child Care”, “National Demonstration Unit for Maternal and Child Digital Service”, “National Innovative Institution for Maternal and Child Healthcare (MCH)”, “Provincial Pilot Unit for Modern Hospital Management System”. Meanwhile, BWCH also shoulders its social responsibility to offer medical services for underdeveloped and remote areas, emergencies and major national events.

Guided by the principles of the Modern Hospital Management System, the Class A Tertiary MCH Hospital Performance Evaluation, the Class A Tertiary MCH Hospital Accreditation and the International Standards for Hospital Care Quality, BWCH consistently aim for a patient-centered care focusing on patient safety, intelligent service and humane care by continuously optimizing its resource allocation, healthcare protocols and IT systems. By extensive application of state-of-art automatic and wearable devices and equipment, BWCH is ready to provide one-stop and high-quality healthcare, achieving a service provision characterized as registration-free, cashier-free, minimal-waiting, paperless and minimal-pain.  

In recent years, BWCH has been a model hospital in enhancing patient safety and providing compassionate and intelligent care. Since moving to the new campus in 2016, more than 100,000 babies have been born and 2 million patients have been cared in BWCH. For three consecutive years from 2019 to 2021, BWCH has led all other hospitals in terms of number of births in Shenzhen. BWCH’s achievement in safeguarding maternal and infant safety has been acknowledged by both national and provincial health committees.

The new campus of children’s hospital under construction, which is next to current campus, is scheduled to be put into operation in 2025. By then, Baoan District will integrate the medical resource of two campuses, with 1500 beds in total, for more efficient care provision and build an international hub featuring excellent MCH health resource based in western Shenzhen.
