MED Introduction
The CUHK-Shenzhen School of MEDICINE and its affiliated hospitals were born out of an agreement inked by the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen in January 2019. At present, Shenzhen is undertaking the historical missions of spearheading the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) as well as developing into a Pilot Demonstration Area of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics (PDA). Against this backdrop of growing opportunities, the establishment of CUHK-Shenzhen MEDICINE is expected to deepen the cooperation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, upgrade Shenzhen's healthcare services, catalyze GBA’s medical and health care industries, and ultimately fulfill the "Healthy China" national strategy.
The School of MEDICINE was officially established in August 2021 on the basis of the former School of Life and Health Sciences (established in November 2018). MED is the fifth School of CUHK-Shenzhen, proceeded by the School of Management and Economics (SME), the School of Sciences and Engineering (SSE), the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), and the School of Data Science (SDS) that offers courses leading to baccalaureate to graduate degrees. Founding Dean Professor Davy CHENG is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, world's leading expert in cardiac surgery anesthesia, anesthesia and perioperative evidence-based medicine research. CUHK-Shenzhen MEDICINE seeks to nurture outstanding innovative and caring medical talents with an international perspective. Drawing on the first-class educational foundation and teaching experience of CU MEDICINE (established in 1981, ranked 28th in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024), and fully embracing the advanced philosophy of medical schools in China and abroad, the School has identified a well-established education system covering undergraduate, master and doctoral training, and will actively explore a new model of medical education that integrates Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
