The Chinese University of Kong Kong, Shenzhen Signed Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement with CUHK Medical Center
The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and CUHK Medical Center recently signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement and will collaborate on medical talents cultivation, faculty exchanges, and advanced scientific research. This cooperation, in line with the integrated development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area), is expected to foster close collaboration in medical and healthcare resources in the Bay Area, leverage Hong Kong’s advantages in internationalized medical education, inheriting the education system of the Faculty of Medicine CUHK to nurture qualified medical talents, and promote the public health and well-being.
The Dean of CUHK-Shenzhen School of Medicine, Professor Davy Cheng, and CEO of CUHK Medical Center, Doctor Hong Fung signed the strategic cooperation framework agreement representing the two parties respectively on August 3, 2022. The two parties will seek closer cooperation in medical education, talent exchanges, and sharing of resources, striving to build an innovative medical teaching and research platform as well as a medical education system as a pilot project for Shenzhen-Hong Kong medical education cooperation in the Greater Bay Area. Meanwhile, both parties will actively explore win-win strategic collaboration in medical student training, advanced medical research, scientific and technological innovation, and transformation of research achievements.
Under the agreement, both institutions will join hands to cultivate medical talents with international perspectives through training and learning opportunities offered by CUHK Medical Center for medical students at CUHK-Shenzhen, following teaching plans adhering to the medical education system in Hong Kong, discussed and agreed by two sides; and to further facilitate faculty exchanges as a team of academic medical staff from CUHK-Shenzhen with strong educational background, professional competence, and professional ethics will visit CUHK Medical Center and receive guidance from doctors to enhance their teaching and mentoring capacities. The two institutions are committed to promoting innovation and transformation of medical research findings in the Greater Bay Area, taking advantage of clinical and professional resources of both sides, gathering outstanding medical research talents at home and abroad, pioneering clinical research in competitive fields, fostering the landing of international advanced medical research projects, and facilitating the transformation of research findings.

In April 2021, the Shenzhen government announced Several Measures on Accelerating Cross-border Connection of Medical Services, focusing on removing all hidden barriers to cross-border medical services in the Greater Bay Area, expanding the flow of quality healthcare resources and advanced medical technology, and ensuring healthcare services for both sides. As the only medical school in mainland China that adopts Hong Kong’s medical education system, CUHK-Shenzhen School of Medicine joins forces with the CUHK Medical Center, which will help ensure that our medical students receive the same level of internationalized education as Hong Kong’s, nurture clinical professionals in the Greater Bay Area in line with Hong Kong and Macau, and further contribute to the integration and development of medical services in the Greater Bay Area.
