尊敬的徐校长、段校长、林部长、陶市长,女士们、先生们，大家好！

I am humbled, honored and privileged to be entrusted by President Tuan, President Xu and the University to be appointed as the Founding Dean of the School of Medicine at CUHK Shenzhen.

I also want to thank all of you: our distinguished guests to join us today in this Appointment Ceremony, to celebrate the official opening of the CUHK(SZ) School of Medicine.

I was born in Hong Kong and have been practicing medicine overseas for nearly 40 years, from which I have accumulated a lot of experience and ideas in medical education, research and healthcare administration.

I always have a desire to bring my experience back to China and to establish a world-class medical school in China.

 Today, I am very honored to be appointed as the Founding Dean of CUHK(SZ) School of Medicine, and have the opportunity to fulfill my dream.

I shall do my best to establish a future-oriented and international medical school.

The CUHK(SZ) School of Medicine builds on the academic system and standard of the CUHK School of Medicine. We will collaborate with CUHK Medical School, Prince of Wales Hospital and CUHKMC system to develop a medical talents training program internationally.

The school of Medicine and affiliated hospitals will partner together for international collaborations in clinical teaching, medical research, postgraduate specialty medicine training. At present, nearly 30 world-class medical schools and institutions have expressed cooperative intentions with us.

Building on the standard of the CUHK Faculty of Medicine, we will also integrate the strengths of medical training program from world-class medical schools.

Through the establishment of the academic health science research center, we will jointly build a medical talents training system, an integrated healthcare service system, a healthcare research platform, a healthcare knowledge translation platform, an international healthcare collaboration and a healthcare big data and artificial intelligence platform with Shenzhen.

We also will fast track the establishment of signature medical subspecialty disciplines group in Shenzhen.

Through a consortium of Jihua Hospital, affiliated hospitals and Community Health Centers in Longgang, we will develop a new model of integrated healthcare system.

With the support of the government, we will integrate medicine with engineering, science and economics, coordinating the development with enterprises on knowledge translation in an industry-university-research model.

At CUHK(SZ) MED this year, we will have our first 2021 inaugural class. They will be a very special class of medical students, the Generation Z (iGen) who will become new generation of physicians in Shenzhen and in China.

Our student will be a 21st century medical expert with the attributes as a professional, scholar, health advocate, leader, collaborator, and communicator.

In conclusion, I am looking forward to working closely with all of you in advancing our vision, mission to build a world class medical school and healthcare system in Shenzhen, Greater Bay Area and China.
